was the back up flutist for Jethro Tull?
Here she is rocking out with L7 screaming "Pretend We're dead".
Of course, she wouldn't be part of any reunion shows.
Not doing much for the band, just like their DJ.
Shaggy during his LSD period with The Beatles. Did you know that Squidward Tentacles was the back up flutist for Jethro Tull? Daria could be "the silent one" of any riot grrrl band out there. Here she is rocking out with L7 screaming "Pretend We're dead". Of course, she wouldn't be part of any reunion shows. Archie as a member of (who else?) The Monkees! Angelica Pickles: The original "Baby Spice" Beavis and Butthead rocking out with Bloodhound Gang.
Not doing much for the band, just like their DJ.

We always wanted to do a piece about "Brothers Garcia". Probably, the most underated, pre-teen/teenage, TV show of all time. This sitcom, aired on Nickelodeon for four years (2000-2004) and it was one of the first, English speaking, shows that featured Latino only cast members (and creative team). What I love about "Brothers Garcia" is that it was a show that actually showed the real problems and struggles of a real teenager, unlike all these new Nickelodeon shows that have nothing to do with growing up and create this unrealistic image of being a teenager. Of course, if you watch the show now, it looks a bit outdated, since the early '00's had this specific style that might never come back (and that's ok). The show follows Larry Garcia, an 11 year old kid, living with his two older, teenage, brothers, his twin sister and his parents in San Antonio, Texas. The episodes are being narrated by Larry's adult self and is about all the simple things that teenagers do while growing up and the main character's struggle to become part of the "group" that consists of his father, Ray and his two older brothers, Carlos and George. Another great aspect of this show is the fact that these kids could actually act, especially Alvin Alvarez, who played Larry. Alvin might be one of the best child actors I've ever seen in my life! Unfortunately, Alvin hasn't done any more acting after "Brothers Garcia" and it's a shame since he was such a good actor. I wonder what he's been up to lately. Alvin, if you somehow get to read this, just send us an e-mail, we'd love to hear from you! Apart from Alvin, all of the other main characters were great too. One of my favourite characters from the show, was Ray García, the father of the family. I mainly loved him because Carlos Lacámara, the actor who played the role, had a minor role in "Friends" and most of you, know how much we all love "Friends" here, in Pink Motel. I also liked the fact that, they managed to portray all the lame things that every teenager does in order to look cool, in great detail. Like, how Carlos (the older brother) would put tones of gel on his hair to look good or how he thought that by buying a pair of shoes or making dreadlocks, would make him a cool guy at school. Things that we all did and now, when we look back at our highschool pictures, can't understand what we were thinking! Overall, even though "Brothers Garcia" lasted for four seasons, it is highly underated since you rarely see it in articles or specials about Nickelodeon's best children shows. Ok, it's not as good as "Kenan and Kel", but I think it deserved more attention.
Hopefully, people at Nickelodeon will, at some point, make a TV show like they used to. I think that the last good show that they did was "Drake and Josh" or it's just that I'm getting older... P.S.1: Really, what happened to Alvin Alvarez? It's a great mystery! It's not that often that you can't find info about someone who starred in a TV show. It's like he never existed! The best explanation that I can think of, is that he didn't use his real name while being in the business... Who knows? P.S.2: Todo para la familia. Everything for the family. Here are all the "FRIENDS" posts we did this week.
Well, this is "the last one" of our crazy "Friends" extravaganza. We had such a great time writing and posting stuff about our favourite sitcom plus, we managed to break our unique visitors record on our little website.I still feel like though, that something is missing in order to complete this. I still feel the need to explain why I think "Friends" is important to me so I can reach closure. One of the main reasons that this show is so important globally, is the fact that it helped many people learn to speak English. You may not realise this if you live in country that has the English language as it's primary one, but, for us that don't, this was one of the shows that helped us on the way. You'll ask me, "Why Friends and not Seinfeld?". Well, the answer is pretty easy. "Friends" was a show in which, the dialogues were easy to understand, not much slag going on, simple words used and all the actors had pretty clear accents. It was the first show that I watched without subtitles on and that fact means a lot to me. If you happen to love learning how to speak other languages, you know how it feels like. I'm sure that there are thousands of people (maybe millions) that learned how to speak/understand English from "Friends". As mentioned by Phil Solem of The Rembrandts in an interview they did for avclub.com: “I’ve talked to people who have learned to speak English from that show or the song, it’s crazy.” So, besides all the jokes, story lines and the love stories, comes this important fact. Sitcom-y value Let's talk about "Friends" as a sitcom. What I love about it is, that this show had this magical power which made me feel like I was part of the group. When I was watching the show, I wasn't sitting on my sofa (even though I was), but I was there, in a corner of Central Perk or leaning on the "4th wall" of Monica's house. I remember one summer that I decided to watch all of the episodes on the right order. I watched at least six episodes per night and it was just me, chilling alone in my room and I didn't care cause I felt like Monica, Ross, Chandler and the rest of the gang were there with me. Simplicity leads to perfection Another thing that makes this show special, is the fact that the writers didn't have to overcomplicate things in order to keep it interesting. The storyline was well structured and no unrealistic stuff were needed. Look at "How I met your Mother", even though I also like it too, they had to make up sooooo many things in order to make it work and after some point it just wasn't fun anymore. Like, in how many weird situations have they been dragged into? On every episode, you would learn about some new secret pacts that some of the characters had made in the past. A good idea that was used hundreds of times on the show. It was no fun after a while. Great Theme Song Who will remember "How I Met Your Mother's" "Paaaa pa pa pa pa pa parrrararam" in ten years from now? Please don't get me wrong, I like "HIMYM", it's just that it is hard for me not to compare. It's been eleven years since the last episode of "Friends" and 21 since the first time that the world heard "I'll be There for you" and I believe that even if you have never watched the show, you'll recognise the song even if I just play you the opening riff on my guitar! The Flashbacks were actual episodes I hate it when a show does a "flashback episode" and all you see is, moments from old episodes that "thank you very much can watch anytime I want". Yep, it was politically correct but, was it really? Ok, I give you that "Friends" haters and sitcom minimalists. "Friends" indeed was politically correct. But was it really? I believe, that if you look closer, you might be surprised. The show made some political points but you have to be able to translate some of the things that you see. Don't forget that we are talking about the '90's! Maybe some of the best sitcom characters ever created We have to acknowledge that "Seinfeld" has the best ones but the fabulous six are up there too! The characters are so well shaped that you feel like you actually know them. I believe that I could guess correctly how any of them would react in everyday situations. Oh, just like that "Friends" episode! That phrase. We have all been in everyday situations were we turn to our friends and say, "that was just like that time when Ross, did this and that..." The Unagi Martial arts master level stuff!
Almost everyone knows the theme song of Friends. I believe that, if you walk down any street holding a boombox that plays "I'll be there for you" on repeat, nine out of ten people will recognize the song. If you ask them who sings it though, things might get a bit messy. The Rembrandts will have to thank Friends for their biggest hit and probably for making loads of money! If you think about it, the show started in a very confused period. Especially for American rock artists. Grunge had just committed suicide (yep, that's a Kurt Cobain reference) and on the other side, you had all these weird alternative rock bands that were on the radio all day long. Bands like the Spin Doctors or Hootie and the Blowfish. For some weird reason, I really like that wave of bands, I don't care that it was nothing dangerous or that, basically, it was a blank period before the boybands took over and destroyed the music industry forever. It's just relaxed, heartbroken rock ballads. Anyway, I've read somewhere that the producers of Friends had asked REM and They Might be Giants to record a song for the opening titles but they both said no. That's where The Rembrandts came, with their sweet voices and melodies and rocked out with "I'll be There for you". Even though "I'll be There for you" is perfect for the show, we decided to try out a few more songs that would also be cool as theme songs for our favorite sitcom of all time! Barenaked Ladies - One Week Well, I owe this one to Friends. It was from the first OST of the show that I discovered BNL. This song has a powerful intro and that's important for a theme song. The opening lyrics, "It's been one week since I looked at you", work perfectly for a weekly show that is based on a group of friends. Barenaked Ladies are the best when it comes to theme songs, don't forget the "Big Bang Theory" one, which is just perfect! Nine Days - If I Am Most known for their biggest hit, "Absolutely (Story of a Girl)" .The truth is that, Nine Days are actually a pretty good pop/rock band. This song works for me, I believe it has a sitcom-y feeling in it but I think it would work better if, at some point, they wanted to give an early 00's view to the opening credits. It looks cool though! Paul Westenberg - Stain yer Blood Ok, I cheated, this one is also on one of the OST compilations with music from the show but it's a great tune from a legendary songwriter. Well, it doesn't get more '90's than that! Fool's Garden - Yellow Lemon Tree I'll tell you the truth, I'm not 100% sure about this one. I think it gives a strange feeling to the opening credits. Strange in a good way... Supergrass - Alright Well, I think that this one fits juuuust fine to the show and to the opening credits! Alright! extras |

1. Organize a pic nic in with your closest friends. A small park is always the perfect location! Tell everyone to prepare a snack, get a bottle of wine, a big sheet and boom! Guaranteed fun! Don’t forget the music! 2. Afternoon coffee time and a walk by the sea! Having your dog around always makes it more fun! 3. This one is for the adventurus ones. You could plan a one day excursion with your beloved one. Yes, it’s gonna be a tad depressing on the way home, but hey, it’s Sunday. 4. This one’s for the guys. Only. Football. As my unfair life has taught me,Sunday is a football-drinks-and rock'n'roll day. oi oi oi! 5. Not so much of an outgoing kind of person? You could always do a TV-series/Movie marathon with your best mate! Order some pizza, sit comfortable, make sure you got lots of beverages around and enjoy the last/first day of the week! |
