I still remember how excited I was when I stated getting into the whole antifolk scene. So many amazing songwriters out there, recording their songs in studios, tape recorders or just on their phone. Basically, making the best of what they could afford. It all started in New York, by Lach, a songwriter who tried to do things his way and not follow the, sometimes unreasonable, seriousness of the folk scene.
Lach, created a movement which gave us artists like, The Moldy Peaches, Beck, Jeffrey Lewis and many more!
I love them all!

The other day, as I was browsing on youtube, I came across a video in which, Phoebe Buffay was playing one of her (amazing) songs at Central Perk. Suddenly, a crazy thought got stuck in my mind. Phoebe Buffay is a part the Antifolk scene and probably, she is the most well known anifolk artist in the world!
Think about it, her songs are simple, based on describing her feelings and they are not about the way that people think of talent, it's all about the message. Phoebe is a Nonconformist, like Chandler would say, "Could you BE more antifolk Phoebe?"
An extra fact that backs my theory is, that Phoebe lives and performs in New York. Also, she is a busker and kind of a hippie...
Oh yeah!
Phoebe is one of us, a hero of the underground who didn't give in when the industry tried to poison her soul with money and fame. I'm talking about the "Smelly Cat" story, which left Phoebe hurt and betrayed by her ex-bandmate.
Pink Motel Records found "The Lost Tapes" of Phoebe Buffay (she only made some limited copies that she handed for free in the 90's), a true antifolk artist...
Check it out!
