We always wanted to do a piece about "Brothers Garcia". Probably, the most underated, pre-teen/teenage, TV show of all time. This sitcom, aired on Nickelodeon for four years (2000-2004) and it was one of the first, English speaking, shows that featured Latino only cast members (and creative team).
What I love about "Brothers Garcia" is that it was a show that actually showed the real problems and struggles of a real teenager, unlike all these new Nickelodeon shows that have nothing to do with growing up and create this unrealistic image of being a teenager. Of course, if you watch the show now, it looks a bit outdated, since the early '00's had this specific style that might never come back (and that's ok).
The show follows Larry Garcia, an 11 year old kid, living with his two older, teenage, brothers, his twin sister and his parents in San Antonio, Texas. The episodes are being narrated by Larry's adult self and is about all the simple things that teenagers do while growing up and the main character's struggle to become part of the "group" that consists of his father, Ray and his two older brothers, Carlos and George.

Another great aspect of this show is the fact that these kids could actually act, especially Alvin Alvarez, who played Larry. Alvin might be one of the best child actors I've ever seen in my life! Unfortunately, Alvin hasn't done any more acting after "Brothers Garcia" and it's a shame since he was such a good actor. I wonder what he's been up to lately. Alvin, if you somehow get to read this, just send us an e-mail, we'd love to hear from you! Apart from Alvin, all of the other main characters were great too.
One of my favourite characters from the show, was Ray García, the father of the family. I mainly loved him because Carlos Lacámara, the actor who played the role, had a minor role in "Friends" and most of you, know how much we all love "Friends" here, in Pink Motel. I also liked the fact that, they managed to portray all the lame things that every teenager does in order to look cool, in great detail. Like, how Carlos (the older brother) would put tones of gel on his hair to look good or how he thought that by buying a pair of shoes or making dreadlocks, would make him a cool guy at school. Things that we all did and now, when we look back at our highschool pictures, can't understand what we were thinking!

Overall, even though "Brothers Garcia" lasted for four seasons, it is highly underated since you rarely see it in articles or specials about Nickelodeon's best children shows. Ok, it's not as good as "Kenan and Kel", but I think it deserved more attention.
Hopefully, people at Nickelodeon will, at some point, make a TV show like they used to. I think that the last good show that they did was "Drake and Josh" or it's just that I'm getting older...
P.S.1: Really, what happened to Alvin Alvarez? It's a great mystery! It's not that often that you can't find info about someone who starred in a TV show. It's like he never existed! The best explanation that I can think of, is that he didn't use his real name while being in the business... Who knows?
P.S.2: Todo para la familia. Everything for the family.
