The KVB are one of our favourite up and coming bands. Formed in 2010 by Klaus Von Barrel who was later joined by Kat Day, they have managed to create a buzz around their name. They keep working hard, touring, recording and releasing constantly. We had the chance to do a small interview with Klaus right before the band left for a French tour.
How does it feel to have your new record released by Cititrax records? (Minimal Wave’s sub label)
Its an honour for us to be releasing through a label like this - Veronica Vasicka has done an amazing job of re-introducing the world to lots of forgotten artists and i was already a fan of the label through ‘The Minimal Wave Tapes Vol 1 & 2’ so its great that we are able to work together on this release.
Things that have changed in KVB since your very first release (“The Black Sun”)?
On 'The Black Sun’ then The KVB was just a solo, part time project i was working on and since then we have become a 2 piece, touring band. I think the KVB’s sound has become more defined too since 'TBS’, although i still think we have the same aesthetic, just maybe not quite so rough around the edges.
Besides music, is there anything else that inspires you?
Lots of things; art, cinema, travelling and also the boredom and struggles of everyday life are an inspiration to me, to do something better!
You have been busy touring around Europe and the States, what was the weirdest experience you had on those touring days?
I can’t think of anything exceptionally 'weird’ that’s happened to us, although we have met plenty of weird people (in a nice way) and had to stay with people in some strange circumstances… Everyday on tour is a new experience and can be 'weird’ in different ways, that’s what is so fun about it.
Which are your Top 5 all time favourite albums?
This is hard to answer because it always changes! but today im going to say:
- Echo & The Bunnymen - Ocean Rain
- the pretty things - sf sorrow
- love - forever changes
- can - tago mago
- suicide - suicide
KVB’s new LP “Immaterial Visions” Will be released later in February by Cititrax records.
