Panda Kid are one of those bands that catch your attention from the first listen. Their weird Lo-Fi Pcych Garage sound gets into your head and before you realise it, you want to sit down and drink some beers with them! They have just released their new album so we HAD to do a small interview with them and make sure that Wille E. Coyote will be a regular band member soon!
1) Being Raccoon In The City, I consider Pandas my big brothers. How did you come up with your stage name?
Hi there! My stage name came up from my childhood experiences.
When i was a KID, me and my family used to visit the seaside every summer. We went by car,an old and burnt-out “Fiat PANDA”, I loved it and also the happy feelings about the upcoming holiday!
I try to push these feelings into my songs, so this is why i call this
project Panda Kid.
2) Who are Panda Kid’s musical heroes?
I listen to all kinds of music. I love r'n'r ,experimental music ,
jazz, pop, 80’s and electronic music, folk , aboriginal music etc.
But I think that my music hero is David Bowie. I got “the rise and fall of Ziggy Sturdast" years ago ,from one of my best friends ,and it literally changed my life and music.
3) If you could have any cartoon character to play in your band, who would you choose and what intstrument would he/she play?
Wile E. Coyote of course!!! I think that a musician’s life is like Wile’s life. You have to try your best even if you don’t hit the target!
Someday soon you will kill that fucking bird and you will dance over
his dirty tomb! I would put Wile at Mellotron, we used it during the recording sessions, it’s a magical instrument! But it is very hard to take on the van ;) Maybe Wile’s got a great deal with pony express ;)
4) You have just released your new LP on vinyl. Would you like to share some details with us?
Our new Lp is called "Summetry” .It will be out soon by Already Dead Tapes & Records(USA) and Mia Cameretta Records(EU). We are very proud for it, this is our first vinyl format release and it was totally recorded on an old Fostex Cassette recorder .We chose to record it live, without computers. Only old analog stuff. These days there is too much fiction in underground music records,so we prefer a warm naturally lo-fi sound! Vinyl art is printed by La Scatola Nera ,hand by hand , in a special and luminescent edition (don’t worry is not radioactive;)
5) As the new year approaches, will you be touring or making new music in 2014?
We have two new singles ready and a new 2014 tour across Europe.
